On Thursday 15 December 2011, a piece of children’s television history was brought to life once again. At the heart of the BBC Television Centre in Green Room 3, the attending audience heard the famous roll call of the Trumpton Fire Brigade ‘Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub.’
The classic 1960s Trumptonshire trilogy of Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley – the UK’s first stop-motion colour animation series ever to be aired on the BBC - has been digitally restored thanks to BBC Studios and Post Production. The lorries have been working with the team at BBC Studios and Post Production since October, and as part of a campaign to raise awareness of their digital media services division, the Trumpton screening was an ideal opportunity to showcase the amazing work being carried out by their restoration team.
The screening kicked off with a video welcome message from Trumpton creator Gordon Murray and his son-in-law William Mollett, and was followed by Clive Hodge – head of digital media services at BBC Studios and Post Production – demonstrating how the restoration work had been carried out.
For those of a certain age, the restored Trumptonfootage brought back many fond memories. Today’s restoration means that future generations will now have the opportunity to enjoy the likes of Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub for many years to come.
And to prove this point here’s our very own lorry Louise getting up close and personal with Windy Miller!
