FAQs

Choosing an agency

What should I look for when hiring a b2b tech PR/marketing agency?

Sector expertise and experience. Proof, not promises: real case studies and real clients who will vouch for the agency. Clarity on exactly who’s running your account, not just who pitched you. A way of measuring success that’s tied to your business outcomes, not vanity metrics. And a way of working that actually fits how you operate.

Should we hire an agency like Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, or bring PR and marketing in-house?

Depends on your business, needs and your budget. An in-house hire will know your business inside out but usually only covers one or two disciplines. An agency gives you access to a team with a wide variety of skills (strategy, messaging, media relations, content, design, paid, GEO etc.) without the overhead of building that team yourself. Most of our clients do both: an in-house lead, backed by Red Lorry Yellow Lorry for execution and support where it counts. A good agency also gives you a fresh, outside perspective on strategy and messaging.

What’s the right PR and marketing mix for a b2b tech company?

There’s no off-the-shelf answer. It depends on the stage your business is at, your audience, goals, budget and location. Typically, b2b tech companies need earned media and analyst relations for credibility, content and SEO/GEO for discoverability (including in AI search), and paid for reach and lead gen, with crisis readiness underneath all of it. We build the right mix for you. We don’t sell a package.

About Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

What is Red Lorry Yellow Lorry known for?

Making brands unmissable. We’re the b2b tech PR and marketing agency for brands that refuse to be ignored: deep sector expertise, sharp strategy, fearless creativity and proprietary tools built specifically for b2b tech. We’re founder-owned, we build every campaign from scratch, with some client relationships that have lasted over a decade. No shortcuts. No bullshit.

What’s Red Lorry Yellow Lorry’s mission?

To be the agency that makes technology brands impossible to ignore. In practice, that means turning complexity into clarity, helping you command attention in a crowded market and driving real demand. We want you leading the conversation in your industry, shaping your market and becoming the obvious choice.

What services does Red Lorry Yellow Lorry offer?

We’re a full-service PR and marketing agency. Services fall into three buckets: brand strategy (positioning, messaging, crisis comms), PR and engagement (media relations, analyst relations, social, influencer, thought leadership) and lead generation (paid media, PPC, content, SEO and AI-powered search). We also have a fearless creative and design team. We build the mix that’s right for you, not a fixed package. You can find a full list of services here.

Do you offer both PR and marketing, or just one?

Both, under one roof. We aren’t a PR shop that added on marketing later. PR, content, GEO, paid and design all sit with one team, one strategy, one point of contact. No stitching together separate agencies that don’t talk to each other.

What industries and sectors do you specialise in?

Mainly b2b tech. That’s it, and that’s the point. Our work spans AI, cybersecurity, enterprise IT, fintech, healthtech, logistics, martech, greentech and blockchain/Web3. We also work with some non-tech b2b clients, for example in professional services, and some consumer tech where we think we can add value. Every consultant here works exclusively in their sector, so we’re not learning your market on your dime.

Why does Red Lorry Yellow Lorry only work in b2b tech, rather than across industries?

Because focus beats breadth, every time. The best agencies aren’t trying to be everything to everyone. They’re the ones who know one world inside out and never stop pushing for better. When spread across industries, expertise thins. We’d rather go all in on one.

Do you work with early-stage startups, or only larger and enterprise brands?

Both. Whether you’re a category-defining startup or a global enterprise brand, you get the same blend of data, creativity and dedication. No watered-down version just because you’re not a household name yet.

Does Red Lorry Yellow Lorry work with clients internationally?

Yes. We run multi-region campaigns through our own offices in London, Boston, LA, Paris and Berlin, plus Convoy, our global PR group: 40 partner agencies, 100+ countries, six continents. Centralised strategy, local delivery, everywhere you need to make your mark.

Do we need a different agency in each region, or can Red Lorry Yellow Lorry work globally from one team?

We work as one international team, wherever you need to show up. We often act as a hub agency through our own offices, and where we don’t have a team on the ground ourselves, through Convoy, our global PR group. That’s 600+ consultants in total. Strategy, messaging and reporting stay with us. Delivery gets local. One relationship, not a different agency in every market.

Can you share case studies or client testimonials?

Always. Proof, not promises. Our work spans Sovos, Extreme Networks, Avid, LogMeIn, Valtech and CYSEC. For Sovos: 175 pieces of coverage, 68% tier-one, a 30-place SEO jump, and triple the qualified PPC leads. LogMeIn’s VP of Corporate Communications called us “a true communications partner… proactive, energetic and smart.” Full stories available on our Work page.

How does Red Lorry Yellow Lorry compare to other b2b tech PR/marketing agencies?

Three things set us apart. We only do b2b tech, so we’re not diluting across industries. We’re founder-owned, so there’s no private equity leaning on us to cut corners. And we build our own technology instead of using the same generic platforms as everyone else. We’re also the team behind Convoy, the first global agency group built specifically for b2b tech PR and marketing.

How much does it typically cost to work with Red Lorry Yellow Lorry?

There’s no minimum retainer. We work with you on a case-by-case basis. What you pay depends on scope and level of activity, but typical fees start from £7,500 a month. We scope it to fit your goals, and don’t just offer a fixed package. Just drop us a message at hello@rlyl.com for a no-obligation chat. No hard sell, we’ll just give you honest advice.

What does “no shortcuts, no bullshit” actually mean in how you work?

It means we say what we mean and skip the padding, in our copy and in how we run your account. No jargon dressed up as strategy, and no recycled campaign templates. If results fall short, we won’t sugar-coat them. You’ll hear it straight, and we’ll fix it.

Services and capabilities

What does your media relations network look like?

Real relationships with the tier-one trade, business and national journalists who cover your sector. Built over years, not assembled for a campaign and dropped after. We spend time getting to know journalists and actually reading their publications so we can deliver targeted campaigns. Through Convoy, that network extends into local media contacts in 100+ countries.

Do you offer crisis communications support?

Yes. It’s a core service, not an add-on. We prepare you before anything happens: messaging, protocols, spokesperson readiness. And when the storm hits, we’re there with rapid-response counsel and media handling to keep your hard-earned trust intact. This is especially critical in cybersecurity and enterprise tech, where one bad week can forever mark a brand.

Do you offer analyst relations and thought leadership services?

Yes. Analyst relations puts you in front of the people shaping how your market is seen: Gartner, Forrester, sector specialists. Leadership profiling and media training turn your execs into voices people trust and want to hear from. Both feed straight into your media relations and content work.

Do you use AI in your work, and how?

Yes, in two ways. Internally, AI tools speed up research, take on repetitive admin and free up more of our time for you. People still make every call, run every campaign and sign off everything that goes out. Human-led, AI-supported, not the other way round. Externally, we help clients get found in AI-powered search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) through GEO and AEO work, including a GEO audit to show you exactly where you stand today.

Do you use off-the-shelf platforms, or build your own tools?

We build what others don’t. Most agencies run on the same generic platforms. Not us. We purpose-build our own technology, from pitch intelligence to our insights and reporting dashboard DRIVE to growth analytics, to track b2b tech markets and measure the real impact of every campaign. It’s part of how we go deeper than agencies who rely on rented software designed around volume consumer campaigns.

Ways of working

Who will manage our account day-to-day?

The named lead who pitched you runs delivery day-to-day, backed by senior strategic oversight from our strategy and creative teams. Depending on what you’re looking to achieve, you may have a PR lead, a digital lead or a combination of both. You meet the actual people working on your account before kickoff. No surprise substitutions once the contract’s signed.

What does the account team structure look like?

We build a small team around your needs and the size of the programme, not a one-size-fits-all template: a senior strategic lead, a day-to-day account lead, a support team, and specialists (content, design, paid media, analyst relations) pulled in as needed. Large or international programmes also get direct input from our directors and regional MDs.

What’s your engagement model? Is it retainer-based?

Mostly, yes. Retainers suit ongoing PR and marketing work best: same team, consistent cadence, momentum that builds instead of resetting every month. Project work is available too, for things like a crisis response, a single campaign or a GEO audit. We’ll agree the right shape during scoping.

How long are typical contracts, and is there a minimum commitment?

It depends on your goals, scope and ambition. Most clients start with a 12-month contract, but we’re flexible and work with a rolling three-month notice period. As a rule, PR and marketing need a few months before they start delivering, so we’re upfront if a term looks too short to do the work justice.

How does onboarding work with a new client?

We start with our background research, then a kickoff session that covers your business, your audiences and your competitors. Then we lock down messaging and KPIs and agree how and when we report. Month one is about getting the foundations right rather than rushing out a press release to look busy. But we know you’ll want early results, so we’ll be engaging your target audiences in parallel.

Measurement & results

What does Red Lorry Yellow Lorry measure as KPIs?

We measure delivery of what you actually care about: the KPIs that show business outcomes, not just campaign outputs. At the start of every programme, we agree the metrics that map to your goals, then track progress with monthly reports and quarterly planning meetings. Those sessions explain what the numbers mean and what we do next, not just report them.

What is DRIVE, and how does the Impact Score work?

DRIVE is our proprietary b2b tech evaluation platform. It turns your media coverage and GEO data into AI-powered insights that prove impact and ROI.

Here’s how it works. AI analyses every piece of coverage for relevance, message penetration, sentiment and authority. Those scores are reviewed by our team and benchmarked against named competitors, including share of voice, so you can see where you actually stand.

We combine that analysis into your Impact Score, a single number that tracks your brand impact and measures the quality of your campaign, not just activity.

You’ll have a live dashboard that puts your media impact, ROI and coverage metrics in one place, built so executive stakeholders get it at a glance. It’s updated regularly, so you get a faster, sharper read on what’s working and where to push for an edge.

What KPIs do you report on for PR? For marketing?

We discuss this with you upfront so we can focus on what matters to you. Typically, PR KPIs run through your Impact Score: relevance, message penetration, sentiment and authority, rolled up with total coverage and share of voice against named competitors. For marketing: search and AI-search ranking movement, lead volume and quality, conversion rate and cost per lead. We agree upfront which of these matter to your business, since not every metric matters to every client.

How do you calculate or demonstrate ROI?

DRIVE is built for exactly this: it turns your coverage and GEO data into a dashboard that puts impact and ROI in one place, not Advertising Value Equivalency, which most of the industry dropped years ago for good reason. We measure against what you actually care about: pipeline, leads, share of voice, AI visibility or mentions. Then we compare that to the baseline we set at kickoff, every cycle, so you see real movement, not just activity.

How long does it typically take to see results?

First wins (early coverage, published content, initial search movement) usually come within 30 to 60 days. The bigger shifts (share of voice, rankings, pipeline) build over three months or more as efforts compound. Crisis communications is the exception. That’s immediate.
